During their tour of the Tenement Museum, students learned the history of immigration through the personal experiences of the generations of newcomers who settled in and built lives on Manhattan's Lower East Side, America's iconic immigrant neighborhood. They had the opportunity to walk through the tenement apartment building, hearing the detailed stories of the immigrant families who once lived there.

After lunch, the group visited the National September 11 Memorial. A tribute to the nearly 3,000 people killed in the terror attacks of September 11, 2001 and the six people killed in the World Trade Center bombing in February 1993, the Memorial’s twin reflecting pools sit within the footprints where the Twin Towers once stood and are each an acre in size.
